The Sergio Tacchini Denver polo shirt worn by Pat Cash at the Wimbledon final in 1987 is now revived from the archives and arrives at its spiritual home.
As the mid 1980s merged into the late 1980s Sergio Tacchini's dominance on the tennis courts didn't just stop at
the marvel of McEnroe. The rock 'n' roll tennis icon had just set the stage for Tachini, paving the way for the next wave of Wimbledon champions. As sportswear trends started to become bolder, wackier and more colourful moving into the late 1980s, Tachini was at the forefront of style driven tennis gear with endorsement deals with the likes of Pete Sampras, Pat Cash & Mats Wilander. The simplistic stripes of the early 80s Tachini designs were replaced with more stripes, patterns & more colour than the elite tennis world had ever seen. It was Pat Cash that kept the Tacchini fire fully burning as he lifted the Wimbledon trophy in 1987. It might have been 6 years since a fiery' headband wearing American had taken Wimbledon glory with the Ghibli in 1981 but Tacchini was still in town and the brands' dominance on centre court was just as strong.

There's usually a year associated with a team or an athlete that goes down in history. For Liverpool it will always be 1984 when they won the League title, the European cup & the League cup. For Torvil & Dean it will always be the Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olympics when they took gold with Bolero. For Pat Cash it will always be 1987, the year he would lift his first and only Wimbledon trophy. After having an emergency appendix operation in 1986 prior to Wimbledon, Cash still reached the quarter finals. 1987 saw the Australian tennis legend go all out to beat Ivan Lendl in the men's final. As Cash & Lendl shook hands at the net it was all about the classic sportswear. Lendl wore his signature adidas polo shirt with updated wavy stripes. Cash wore his iconic check head band that was reminiscent of the flooring in the hallway of a posh London town house and the famous Denver polo shirt from Sergio Tacchini. A new era of tennis stardom had started and once again Tacchini was the winner.
