With a name like Capomasters, you might think this revival track top from Sergio Tacchini sounds something like a rank in the Italian Mafia.
Sadly there are no tracksuit ties to the "Five Families" with the Sergio Tacchini Capomasters even if it was originally made in Italy, however the chances are the mob probably did wear it during the 1980s heydays. Sitting somewhere between an underboss & a soldier, the caporegime or Capo for short, was the captain of the crew. Adding this to a name of a track top surely meant something to the Italian designer. Traditionally tennis gear worn at Wimbledon & whacking bosses had absolutely no connection whatsoever but brands like Sergio Tacchini changed all that in the 1970s & 1980s. It wasn't as though Tacchini got in his creative design space and thought that he really need to make a tracksuit that the Italian Mafia would wear. The fact was they wore it because it looked so cool and classy at the same time. Perhaps Tacchini knew the mob connection so he added it in as a sign of respect. The reality is he probably just thought it sounded good & it most certainly did.

Mob ties aside, the Sergio Tacchini Capomasters track top actually was born from the Masters family. An original track top style which was famously worn by John McEnroe & named after the Masters Grand Prix which McEnroe won numerous singles titles in London, Stockholm, Tokyo, Philadelphia and Forest Hills between 1978 and 1985. The Masters signature twin striped design was also seen on McEnroe in polo shirt form as part of the Young Line series. So what's the difference between the Masters & the Capomasters apart from the fact that one sounds like its about to hijack a truck load of cigarettes. Well the collar is probably the most notable difference between the two with a contrasting funnel neck featuring on the Capomasters. Just like the Masters, the Capomasters also came in full tracksuit form and was originally made exclusively in Italy.
