When you think of the original caf_ racers of the 1960s images of leather jackets, supercharged motorcycles & London's world renowned Ace Cafe come to mind. Expensive Italian sportswear of the early 1980s might seem like a million miles away from petrol fumes and greasy spoons but if we're talking about the style driven tennis gear from Italian designers like Sergio Tacchini the connection is a lot closer than what you might think. Whether it was full tracksuit form for training in or just worn "Casually", the Orion track top or Avalon Split Star as it was originally known, oozed Casual panache with its popping pastel colourways and contemporary sportswear aesthetic that looked like nothing before it. The history of the Sergio Tacchini Orion track top goes back to the 1980s, in particularly the early 80s with the Avalon Split Star, a more style driven version of the Sergio Tacchini Star track top which was famously worn by John McEnroe. The classic training style was also available in a caf_ racer version which featured a biker style collar just like Fila did with the Terrinda in 1982. The OG 80s tracksuit was a testament to Tacchini's vision of a fashionable sportswear brand with the pastel blue & yellow colourways of the iconic tennis style becoming a key look among the casual elite of the 1980s. If there was one Tacchini track top every young Casual kid wanted in the early 1980s, the Orion was definitely up there.

The OG Tacchini style was also introduced to the big screen as a key wardrobe style in Nick Love's The Firm from 2009. Famously worn in the film by Bex played by Paul Anderson & Dom played by Calum MacNab, the classic track top was then revived from the Tacchini sportswear archives following the release courtesy of 80s Casual Classics. The famous lines from the shop scene, 'Put That Yellow Sergio in The Bag', featured Bex buying the sought after Sergio style from our very own Neil Primett who played the shopkeeper. The celebrated track top now returns to its spiritual home in the original 'Cafe Racer' form of the legendary yellow & white colourway.
