The PUMA Mallorca Returns in Some Fresh New Colourways

The iconic terrace silhouette now returns to 80s Casual Classics with the introduction of the PUMA Mallorca white/fresh red trainer & the PUMA Mallorca white/navy trainer.

Naming a trainer after an island or a city was something both the Dassler brothers with their own respective brands were very much known for. It was Rudolph Dassler that first introduced the Oslo City for the 1952 Winter Olympic Games in Oslo. Adi Dassler then gave us the adidas Rom trainer back in 1959, an OG 3 stripes silhouette that would lead to a whole new world of Continental inspired trainers. Fuelled by their bitter brotherly rivalry to one-up each other, the brothers named their trainers after everywhere from Balearic islands to Bavarian capital cities. Rudolph even created his own Roma trainer with the PUMA Roma trainer in 1968 even though Adi had already released the Rom for the Rome Olympics in 1960. This clearly showed the levels these two Bavarian born brothers were prepared to go to. The PUMA Mallorca trainer originally came from Rudolph's team following in the footsteps of the Madrid, the Dallas, the Oslo & the St. Petersburg. After the introduction of the Suede in 1968 & then the Clyde in the 1973, PUMA quickly became the 'go to' brand for track athletes & basketball players. Tommie Smith famously raised his fist in defiance at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968 whilst holding his PUMA Suede shoe. It was this moment that really set PUMA apart from the other sportswear brands. PUMA's subcultural connection of the late 70s B-Boy crews of the New York boroughs also gave the German sportswear brand a new 'street' appeal. Named after the picturesque Balearic Island, the PUMA Mallorca trainer is a classic terrace trainer from the golden era of casual sportswear. Drawing inspiration from the sun drenched shores of the Balearic Island, which is located 100 miles North East of Ibiza, the Mallorca was revived from the Herzogenaurach archives back in 2021. Following its revival, the Mallorca now returns in some fresh new colourways. Featuring a durable canvas upper with suede overlays and contrasting form strip to the sidewalls the Mallorca is the ultimate retro trainer. Finished off with a chunky gum sole unit which gives a nod to the shoe's performance heritage & 'Mallorca' branding in gold foiling to the sidewalls, the Mallorca is a must have OG PUMA style.
