The PUMA Easy Rider Vintage is a retro running trainer that revolutionized the jogging craze of the 1970s with weight to miles equations and & sole that could apparently travel 1000 miles.
Something that we will always love about the 1970s & the 1980s was how much the big sportswear brands like PUMA really upped their game in running trainer innovation. Something like the equivalent of the "Space Race" for sneakers, OG trainers like the PUMA Easy Rider Vintage used complicated physics equations as part of their design & marketing process to explore how much weight you could put on each foot when you ran. The Easy Rider silhouette revolutionized the whole jogging craze of the 1970s with claims that the sole would last 1000 miles.

After hitting the big boy leagues of the NBA with the PUMA Suede, the Easy Rider was PUMA's "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" response to the other sportswear brands out there, who were also going "all in" with running trainer innovation in the 1970s. The concept was pretty simple, create a running shoe that would prevent the most injuries. PUMA did a pretty good job and this latest classic black colourway revives the legendary 70s runner for what could probably be the "easiest" trainer purchase you'll make this year.

The original design of the Easy Rider was all about the stress points, the support & preventing shoe related injuries. PUMA even drafted in Dr. Ronald Riggs, a long distance running coach from San Jose State as their chief technical consultant. With vigorous testing on a range of athletes, the designers went all out with weight to miles equations of long distance runners with uppers that were focused on support, stability and flexibility. The innovative sole unit also featured shock absorbing rubber studs to minimise the overall stress put on the ankles & the heel. First introduced in 1977, the Easy Rider would also lead to other innovative PUMA runners moving in the 1980s like the Joy Rider, the Whirlwind, the Rockette, the Sky Rider & the Fast Rider.
