As far as classic 80s outerwear is concerned it doesn't really get much better than the mac. Think Connor Macleod in that iconic car park scene kitted out
in Borg Elite's and the classic mac in Highlander from 1986. Gordon Gekko was also sporting the classic mac style in Wall Street from 1987 in the very last scene with Bud Fox. Then there was the Yeti having it toe-to-toe with Bex in The Firm from 2009, only this time it was strictly baseball bats instead of antique swords. When all said and done the mac is an 8os icon thanks to Yuppie culture where the only things that mattered were making as much money as possible and sporting the latest clothing trends. The mac became a symbol of 80s capitalism & one-upmanship from Wall Street to the the City of London and it didn't matter whether you'd studied finance at Harvard or you'd grown up on the hardened streets of Hackney. Obviously the Casuals were going to jump all over it but in a more continental fashion. Gabicci was originally started back in 1973 by Jack Sofier and Alex Pyser after a visit to the Italian town of Gabicce Mare which is located in the picturesque Province of Pesaro and Urbino. The original Gabicci style was smart, and casual at the same time, looking to Italian menswear style for its main inspiration. The iconic G logo captured the hearts of the soul movement of the 1970s with Northern Soul in the North of England and the Soul Boys in the South. World renowned Soul DJ's like Norman Jay pioneered the original Gabicci Soul Boy look with Gabicci knitwear and polo shirts. The Soulful look was also adapted by the early Casuals, where it merged into the original smart casual style we know today.
