The adidas Tobacco Gruen Trainer Returns in OG Dark Brown

The adidas Tobacco Gruen Dark Brown trainer revives the early 1970s leisure shoe which now arrives at 80s Casual Classics in all its OG glory.

When it comes to revival releases adidas have gone all out over the last few years. This year 3 stripes fans were treated to another re-release of the adidas Tobacco Gruen trainer, the original "gentleman's' trainer from the 1970s. Sounding something like what your Grandad would wear whilst watching his favourite soaps, the Tobacco didn't really have any connection to smoking, it was mainly to do with the colourway inspiration. Just like traditional tobacco, the Tobacco trainer was originally released in various shades of brown. There was a darker shade of brown which was originally 'Made in Canada'. There were also lighter shades of brown which were 'Made in France'. Both colourways actually saw manufacturing in Europe & Canada with each shade of brown just as important to the Tobacco family tree as the other. Following the release of the Tobacco trainer in fox orange a few months back, the classic 3 stripes silhouette now returns in its original dark brown colourway. adidas tobacco gruen dark brown OG Above: The adidas Originals Tobacco Gruen trainer in dark brown now available from 80s Casual Classics. The 1970s saw adidas really tapping into the world of leisure shoes with the introduction of archive silhouettes like the California, the Florida, the Riviera & the Tobacco. Following in the footsteps of the adidas Gazelle, the Tobacco took a more relaxed approach to life, opting for leisure over performance & sports. Maybe the design team at adidas thought they needed something a little less sporty? Or maybe it had something to do with the fact that people were starting to wear trainers for leisure. However, calling a trainer after something that was usually smoked and bad for your health wasn't really textbook adidas at all. Originally released in 1972, the adidas Tobacco Gruen trainer was the original 3 stripes leisure shoe & similar in appearance to classic styles from the original City Series such as the adidas London. Taking colourway inspiration from the tobacco leaf, the Tobacco Gruen trainer was all about the various shades of brown. adidas tobacco gruen dark brown OG Above: The adidas Originals Tobacco Gruen trainer in dark brown now available from 80s Casual Classics.
