The celebrated City Series trainer, the adidas M'nchen, now returns to its spiritual home in an updated dark blue & solar red colourway.
As collectors & connoisseurs of pretty much anything that is adidas, we could literally talk about the City Series all day long. We're not just talking about the "City Series" as a whole here though, we're talking about the European City Series. The Continental connection & the European Cup tours of the late 1970s & the early 1980s. It made perfect sense for sportswear seeking, style driven football fans to come back with names of European cities on their trainers. A pinnacle time of one-upmanship, adidas were still marketing their trainers at German handball players and the Casuals were picking up trainers from the Continent that weren't even available to buy here in the UK. Travel just wasn't as accessible as it is now. Trips to the continent weren't just something you could book in 10 minutes on your phone. For young Casuals on apprenticeship wages it was a case of blagging a train ticket, there was no such thing as budget airlines. Travelling to Europe as a football fan and bringing back super rare sportswear had a certain charm about it. It still does. This latest adidas M'nchen trainer in dark blue & solar red is a reminder of just how magical the original European City Series still is to the die hard 3 stripes fans.

First introduced in 1976, the adidas M'nchen trainer took its name from the Bavarian capital, home to the beer & bratwurst festivities of Oktoberfest and the highly successful European football heavyweights, Bayern Munich. Alongside other notable Continental City Series trainers such as the London, the Dublin, the Malmo, the Berlin & the Kopenhagen, the M'nchen still remains one of the most sought after. Designed as an indoor training shoe for speed & performance, the M'nchen's desirability quickly spread to the UK's Casual subculture. The original 1976 M'nchen trainer actually had a white chunky sole which was similar in appearance to the adidas Trimm Trab. It was the 'Made in Japan' version that featured a gum sole like the revival releases we see today.

A similar colourway was previously used on the adidas Shanghai City Series trainer as well as featuring on a more recent Trimm Trab release. Featuring premium suede uppers in dark blue with contrasting 3 stripes in solar red to each side, the trainer is just about as good as it gets when it comes to classic adidas. Finished off with a transparent gum sole unit & gold 'M'nchen' foiling to the lateral sides, the 'Continental crep' is a must have 3 stripes style for the serious adidas collectors.
