The PUMA Palermo Trainer Takes is Name From The Sun-Drenched Italian Island

The PUMA Palermo is an OG suede silhouette from the early 1980s that now arrives in an updated jade green colourway for 2024.

It's no surprise really with the recent resurge in suede silhouettes that the PUMA Palermo has become one of the most talked about trainers of 2024. What was previously Jordan's & YEEZY on the sneaker resale market is now just as much about the classic suede styles. For us here at 80s Casual Classics it's always been about the suede stuff but just like The Business from 2005 opened up a new door for retro sportswear, it's always nice to see the classics get the admiration they deserve. An OG terrace silhouette from the early 1980s, the PUMA Palermo came as part of the German sportswear brands very own city series which looked to the sun-drenched city on the Italian island, Sicily. Re-released back in 2021 the Palermo is a fine example of what PUMA have built their 75 year legacy on. The classic suede silhouette now arrives back at its spiritual home in an updated jade green colourway for 2024. Born on the back of the Dassler brothers bitter rivalry, the Palermo was first introduced in the Casual peacocking heydays of the early 1980s. Just like adidas released a range of Continental inspired trainers with cities and places for their names, so did PUMA. Even though Rudolph and Adi had sadly both passed away in the 1970s, the one-upmanship continued well into the 1980s. Naming a trainer after a city, or Island, was something PUMA & adidas had both built their reputations on, dating back to the 1960s with OG silhouettes like the Roma from Rudolph & the Rom from Adi. Following its original release in the early 1980s the Palermo quickly found its new home on the UK's homegrown Casual scene. Its rarity & continental charm fuelled the one-upmanship of "casual" trainers of the era with many die-hard PUMA collectors citing the Palermo as one of their top all time silhouettes. Famous for its oversized label, suede panelling & overlays, the Palermo had a unique look when compared to the other gum soled 'suede' silhouettes that had come before it. Now revived from PUMA's Herzogenaurach archives for 2024 the Palermo returns to its spiritual home in an updated jade green colourway. Highlights of the release includes jade green uppers with a yellow suede formstrip to the sidewalls. The original oversized Palermo branding tab still features to the lateral sides in gold foiling, with tonal stitching & the famous T-toe detailing to the front. The Palermo is then finished off with a PUMA branded gum sole unit for that all important retro aesthetic. Shop the very latest PUMA trainer releases now at 80s Casual Classics via the links.
