Patrick Derby Retro Football Shirt

Introducing The Patrick Derby Retro Football Shirt

This latest Patrick Derby Retro Football Shirt gives a nod to the original home shirt of the Rams during the 1981-82 season.

We all love a bit of football nostalgia don’t we, and the same certainly goes for retro football shirts. After bringing back the original classic cagoule from Patrick, we’ve also now introduced the Patrick Derby Football Shirt which gives a nod to the original home shirt of The Rams from 1981. Back in the early 1980s every young “Casual” kid wanted a bit of Patrick, thanks mainly to the cagoule craze of the terraces, the brand became a staple among the casual elite. The passion for Patrick also had a lot to do with the fact that Kevin Keegan wore Patrick football boots. Also when Keegan came back to the 1st Division from Hamburg to join Southampton in 1980 he also wore a full Patrick kit. It wasn’t just Keegan’s perm that was iconic, it was also his sponsorship deals. If you played football at school in the 1980s chances are you wanted or owned a pair of Patrick football boots. Patrick’s football connection didn’t just stop at Keegan though, they were also the official kit sponsor of Derby County from 1981-1984.

Before County’s recent administration woes, Frank Lampard, and more recently Wayne Rooney, the East Midlands club still had its fair share of struggles throughout the 1980s. Peter Taylor returned to the legendary Baseball Ground as manager in 1983 and kept Derby up that season, but retired a year later just before Derby’s relegation to the Third Division (now League 2). Iconic rams players of the early 80s included the likes of Kevin Wilson, Steve Powell, John Barton & John Clayton. One of the founding members of the original football league back in 1888, the Rams have however had some glory days winning the First Division back in the 1970s as well as reaching the semi-finals of the European Cup. Moving into the 90s, Derby County finished second in the Premier League in 1996 under the leadership of Jim Smith. After struggles with finances and ownership, Derby County were sadly relegated to League One from the Championship in April 2022.
