Popping Pastel Polo Shirts From Lacoste

When it comes to the classic Lacoste polo shirt it’s all about the pastels & we’ve just taken delivery of some of the most popping pastels you’ve ever set your eyes on.

If we’re talking about classic 80s gear then it doesn’t really get much more “casual” than the crocodile. The classic Lacoste polo shirt in a fresh pastel colourway is probably just about as good as it gets when it comes to casual fashion. However, long before the wedge haircuts & the Wilander track tops of the 1980s, the timeless polo shirt with the iconic crocodile logo had already made its mark on the elite tennis world. Even today the likes of the world number 1 Novak Djokovic can be seen sporting a bit of the crocodile on centre court, a testament to the brands’ status and longevity. When all said and done sportswear brands like Lacoste don’t really come around that often and these latest pastel polo shirts from the brand are popping’ to say the least.

If there’s one thing that you instantly associate with the Lacoste polo shirt it’s probably the sheer number of colourways available. You might remember visiting your first Lacoste store and seeing the colour wheels of polos displayed in store. Clever merchandising which gave you plenty reason to spent your last bundle of Peseta’s on your way back from the Costa’s. There was just something different about putting on a pastel coloured polo shirt from that colourful crocodile wheel of appeal. Whether it was a pastel baby blue, aqua, yellow or pink, it just looked so fresh whilst still oozing that centre court class. One thing is for sure, a Lacoste polo shirt in a fresh pastel colourway will simply never lose its appeal.

The history of the Lacoste polo shirt goes back to the French tennis plater René Lacoste. Nicknamed ‘The Crocodile’, René looked to change traditional tennis gear by wearing a polo shirt as it allowed greater movement to play in. At the time the polo shirt was well ahead of its time with its moisture-wicking fabric, optimal fit & even the addition of a collar for added protection from the sun. With its elitist tennis appeal & hefty price tag, it was no surprise really that the Lacoste polo shirt was adapted by the Casuals. Even those who couldn’t afford the RRP’s of the real one would sow on fake crocodiles onto their own polo shirts to pass off as the real ones. Every young Casual wanted a bit of the crocodile and the polo shirt was one of the most desirable styles at the time.
