First introduced in the late 1970s the Clarks Originals Weaver marked the next generation of the crepe soled wallabee which is now revived from the British shoemakers archives.
Whether its the Wu Tang Clan rapping about wallabees or a lager fuelled Liam Gallagher having it large with the press wearing a pair of the classic crepe soled shoes, the subculture connection of the iconic British Moccasin style is absolutely huge. Since it first came on the footwear scene back in 1964 the Clarks Wallabee has become a footwear staple and a timeless footwear design. Such admiration wasn't just born overnight though with other footwear brands scratching their heads and wondering just how a simple moccasin style became so popular. Its subculture connection for one has played a pivotal role in the growth of the classic shoe, but its simplicity and all year round comfort has also had a lot to do with the shoe's popularity. Now introduced to 80s Casual Classics, the Clarks Originals Weaver revives the late 1970s Wallabee from the British shoemakers archives. It was the Wallabee style that really gained popularity with the chemical generation of the late 80s and early 90s. Early ravers wanted comfort on their feet, and with a strict no trainers policy, the Wallabee was the perfect shoe to dance in. The non conformist aesthetic and the almost hippy appeal of the 1960s born design would catapult the shoe back into the 90s with emerging talent and artists from Burnage to Brooklyn. Ol' Dirty Bastard & Raekwon from the Wu-Tang Clan were regularly seen wearing the shoe after their debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) was released in 1993. The classic crepe soled shoe was also a key style with the 90s Britpop scene. The Verve's 'Urban Hymns' album from 1997 even shows Richard Ashcroft wearing a pair of Clarks Wallabees on the front cover. As new trainer trends come and go, with new celebrity endorsements & fancy marketing campaigns, the Clarks Wallabee just kind of stays true to what it knows. The phrase "if it isn't broke it doesn't need fixing" couldn't be more fitting when it comes to the Wallabee. First introduced in 1977, the Clarks Weaver marked the next generation for the iconic crepe sole wallabee. On first appearance it's almost identical to the original wallabee however there a few subtle differences such as the box stitched uppers as well as a slightly slimmer profile that give the Weaver its own unique aesthetic. The re-worked wallabee was recently reived from the British shoemakers archives and now arrives at 80s Casual Classics in true OG form. Available in a selection of classic Clarks colourways such as cola suede and black, the late 70s moccasin shoe features premiums suede box stitched uppers as well as the iconic crepe sole underfoot.
