The adidas Jeans Trainer Arrives in a Malmo Inspired Colourway

The legendary 3 stripes silhouette now arrives in some Malmo inspired colourways with the introduction of the adidas Jeans Yellow/Blue trainer.

Even though adidas weren't really that quick to jump on the Casual trainer trends of the late 1970s and the early 1980s like they would do today, they clearly knew what they were doing with the adidas jeans trainer. Several years before the Casuals stamped "die marke mit den 3 streifen" across the UK's terraces & youth clubs with their wedge haircuts and Lois denims, wearing jeans with performance trainers was still something relatively new. With the big sportswear brands battling it out throughout the 1970s to create the best performance shoes it was only really going to be a matter of time before someone said "these trainers actually look pretty cool with a pair of jeans". It was the Casuals that really gave the trend the subcultural connection, but that's not to say adidas weren't already aware with it with the Jeans trainer. It was clearly marketed as a trainer to wear with jeans but it was the Casuals that created the trainer icon that it is today. Drawing inspiration from the early SL ranges from the 1970s, the adidas Jeans trainer was well ahead of its time. Similar in appearance to the SL72 trainer, the adidas Jeans trainer debuted 3 years later in 1975. The MK1 jeans trainer took its name from the growing jeans with trainers trend, something which Nike would also jump on 1 year later in 1976 with Farah Fawcett famously modelling a pair of Nike Cortez whilst riding a skateboard in Charlies Angels. However, it was the second release of the Jeans that really struck a cord with the growing Casual movement of the late 1970s. The adidas Jeans MKII was easily the most sought after of the two, the main notable difference was the introduction of the heel stabiliser. adidas jeans Malmo yellow blue Above: The adidas Jeans trainer in yellow/blue now available from 80s Casual Classics. The classic 3 stripes style now returns to 80s Casual Classics in a Malmo inspired yellow & blue colourway. The Malmo was one of the very first City Series trainers from the 1970s and took its blue & yellow colourway inspiration from the Swedish flag. Highlights of this latest adidas Jeans release include soft suede yellow uppers with the iconic heel stabiliser in white to the rear & a gum rubber outsole for that classic trefoil trainer look. The adidas Jeans trainer is finished off with contrasting 3 stripes in blue, original trefoil branding to the tongue & 'JEANS' in gold foiling to the side walls.
