The adidas Gazelle 'Purple' Trainer Reminds Us Why We Love All Things 3 Stripes
Share
This latest adidas Gazelle 'Purple' trainer revives the OG colourway for a very special re-release of the classic 3 stripes trainer we all love.
As far as the actual design goes of the Gazelle it's pretty basic when compared to some of the current trainer technology available. But and it's a big but (cue Sir Mix-A-Lot's classic hip hop track from 1991) you will never compete with the adidas Gazelle as far as classic looks are concerned. There's something about a box fresh pair of Gazelle's in an OG colourway like purple that reminds us of why we fell in love with adidas trainers in the first place. The smell of the un-creased suede uppers still wrapped up like a gift from the 3 stripes Santa with the contrasting 3 stripes that just never looked so good. It's crazy to think that the Gazelle goes all the way back to late 1960s a time when Jimmy Hendrix was playing Woodstock and flower power even reached as far as the jungles of Vietnam. So much has happened in the world since the late 1960s from pop culture to politics, yet the Gazelle still reigns supreme. How many other trainers out there can claim such superiority? Probably not many. This latest adidas Gazelle 'Purple' trainer reminds us of why we love all things 3 stripes, and in the case of the Gazelle it doesn't really get much better than an OG colourway like this one. Originating back in the late 1960s, the adidas Gazelle was the one of the very first adidas trainers to feature suede on the uppers. The concept was to create a lightweight, multi-purpose trainer and was famously worn by the West Germany national football team as an all purpose training shoe. The Gazelle marked a revolutionary shift in performance footwear with other notable styles like the adidas Jaguar and the adidas Panther also following suit with Serengeti inspired names. Moving through the decades it was a range of subcultures that really saw the adidas Gazelle become the icon it is today. The Gazelle became one of the original styles worn by the B-Boys & the Casuals throughout the 80s. Moving forward to the 90s, adidas once again revived the Gazelle with the Gazelle 91 edition, this time however it was released in just about every colourway imaginable. Worn by everyone from the Gallagher brothers to Jamiroquai's Jay Kay the Gazelle became an icon of "Cool Britannia" and the revival of retro sportswear throughout the 1990s. Featuring super soft suede uppers in OG purple with t-toe detailing to the toe box, the old school performance shoe is probably about as good as it gets when it comes to classic adidas. Other highlights include original trefoil branding in purple to the tongue with contrasting 3 stripes to the sidewalls & Gazelle branding. Finished off with an all white sole unit, this adidas archive trainer looks just as fresh today as it did back 91'. Shop the latest adidas trainer releases now from 80s Casual Classics via the links.
