PUMA Court Trainer OG 80s

The PUMA Court is an OG Tennis Trainer From the 1980s

PUMA revive the classic Court trainer from the Herzogenaurach archives straight from the speedy tennis courts of the 1980s.

If there's one sport you instantly associate with the Casuals it's got to be tennis. The elitist sport was all about one-upmanship whether it was bragging rights on how fast your serve was or which sportswear brand you were sponsored by. Tennis trainers played a key role in Casual fashion from the late 1970s as the big sportswear brands looked to bag the best players from the courts to the tracks. The German sportswear brand, PUMA, went all out in this magical era, not only sponsoring the feet of tennis royalty like Guillermo Vilas & Boris Becker, but also pioneering a range of innovative trainer designs that could be used on various court surfaces. PUMA's OG tennis trainers had a certain aesthetic about them. Usually all white with ventilation holes running throughout the sidewalls & midsoles loaded with the very latest trainer tech. Classic "big cat" styles like the Court, the Hard Court, the Vilas Hard Court, the Wimbledon, the Match, the Paris, the Tennis, the Tennis Indoor & the Becker all came from this nostalgic tennis era. It's the PUMA Court trainer that now arrives back at its spiritual home in true OG form for 2026.

Following the death of Rudolph Dassler in 1974 and Adi Dassler shortly after in 1978, the competition between adidas & PUMA still remained just as strong moving into the late 1970s & early 80s. The bitter brotherly feud had sparked a 'one-up' approach to footwear production. Family ties may have been cut in the process but from a performance product point of view the dispute actually gave us some of the greatest trainers of all time. It was all about who could create the very best performance shoe, a 'one up' mentality which would ironically become the mindset of the Casuals. As the Casuals looked to the continent to source some of the rarest silhouettes, it was footwear brands like PUMA that really captured that 'one up' mentality on the elitist tennis courts of London, Paris & New York.
