The adidas Courtwave Trainer Channels That Classic Late 80s Tennis Style

Giving a nod to late 80s tennis silhouettes such as the Edberg OG & the Lendl Advantage, the adidas Courtwave trainer puts a contemporary spin on the classic court trainer.

If there's one thing you instantly associate with adidas it's tennis trainers. Following on from the huge success of the Stan Smith from adidas which first graced the courts of the elite tennis world in the 1970s, the German sportswear brand's dominance at the highest level didn't show any signs of slowing down moving into the 1980s. Thanks to lucrative contracts with the likes of Ivan Lendl & Stefan Edberg, "Die Weltmarke mit den 3 Streifen" dominated the world of endorsement deals & tennis trainer technology as the racket sport became faster and more physical, the players demanded a lot more from their footwear and kit. Giving a nod to archive tennis silhouettes, we've now introduced the adidas Courtwave trainer which channels that classics late 80s tennis style.

It was the late 1980s that saw a new breed of trainer designs and sole technology come into fruition, following on from the groundbreaking innovation from the Borg Elite from Diadora in the early 1980s. New silhouettes from adidas such as the Edberg from 1986 & the Ivan Lendl Advantage from 1987 broke new barriers with state-of-the-art tennis biomechanics thanks to dual density midsoles & multi-purpose outsoles. It wasn't just the technology though, these silhouettes had a distinct aesthetic which can be easily placed for the era. Features included dense midsoles, perforations & distinct colourways such as all white with pops of collegiate green, royal blue & red.
