Sergio Tacchini Celebrate The Marvel of McEnroe With The Ghibli Davis Cup

If there's one track top from the golden era of "casual sportswear" you instantly associate with John McEnroe is got to be the Sergio Tacchini Ghibli track top.

A firm favourite of the fiery Long Islander, John McEnroe, the Sergio Tacchini Ghibli track top was one of the key styles worn by the American tennis legend throughout the highly profiled centre court rivalry with Björn Borg. As much as we might associate the Ghibli with the prestigious grass courts of Wimbledon, it was actually part of the US team's uniform for the Davis Cup, of which McEnroe bagged 5 titles. A classic 80s Casual style associated with one-upmanship, red headbands and curly white boy afros, the Ghibli is firmly rooted in 80s sportswear & subculture. Giving a nod to the classic Davis Cup design of the original McEnroe style, the Ghibli track top now returns to its spiritual home.

Something like the equivalent of the Fila Settanta Mk1 track top to Björn Borg, the Ghibli is one of the main styles associated with McEnroe and the early Casual movement of the late 1970s & early 1980s. Famously worn by McEnroe when he played for the USA Davis Cup team & also when he beat Björn Borg in the Wimbledon final in 1981. At the height of the whole Borg v McEnroe rivalry it was the walk out to the final in '81 that would become one of the most iconic shots of the era. Super Mac stepped foot onto centre court wearing his trademark red headband, a Ghibli track top & a pair of Nike Wimbledon's.

Features of the McEnroe classic includes the funnel neck design with the famous stripes running from the collar to the pit, as well as contrasting piping running down the sleeves. Each style is finished off with the iconic ST branding embroidered to the left chest alongside 'Sergio Tacchini Italia '66' which runs across the right chest, giving a nod to the year the legendary Italian tennis player started the sportswear brand.
