Reebok Give The Classic The Hexalite Honeycomb Treatment

The Reebok Classic Hexalite trainer utilises the ground-breaking early 90s trainer tech on the original "all leather" training shoe.

A seismic shift started in the 1980s which saw sole technology taken to all new levels courtesy of the big sportswear brands. The classic gum soled suede shoes of the 1960s & the 1970s made way for a new wave of sole cushioning & trainer tech with shock absorbency becoming the key function of trainer design. The 80s fitness boom, mainly running, had created a demand for a trainer that needed maximum shock absorbency with one-upmanship between the brands becoming something like the trainer equivalent of the space race. adidas gave us their peg shock absorb system courtesy of the Los Angeles trainer in 1984. ASICS gave us the GEL in 1986, closely followed by the first ever Air Max the following year thanks to Tinker Hatfield & Nike. Reebok came a little later to the shock absorbency show with the introduction of Hexalite in 1990. With claims that it was 4 times stronger than the traditional EVA misdole, the sole technology was inspired by honeycombs which was pretty evident in the design. Reebok now give their original Classic trainer the Hexalite honeycomb treatment for this latest hybrid release. Reebok's signature Union Jack logo became like a badge of honour for those looking to build better bodies courtesy of the British sportswear brand's clever marketing which spotted a gap in the 80s fitness/gym world. Where other sportswear brands were looking to one-up each other with the latest sole technology on the running tracks, Reebok kept things simple with a range of 'All Leather' styles that would go down in trainer history. OG silhouettes like the Reebok Classic trainer championed the 80s fitness craze. An all purpose training shoe that could be used for various workouts from weight training to aerobics. First released in 1982, the Reebok Classic became the foundation of Reebok's celebrated "All Leather" training styles during the 1980s, closely followed by the the Workout in 1984 & then the Club C in 1985.
