PUMA have now introduced a brand crepe sole version of their iconic suede silhouette with the PUMA Suede Crepe trainer.
The PUMA Suede Crepe trainer brings back all the nostalgia of the original suede shoe with a bit of wallabee inspired swagger for good measure. The history of the PUMA Suede goes back to 1968 when the Crack (as the Suede was previously known) was launched for the Mexico Olympics in 1968. The same year that Adi Dassler released
the adidas Gazelle & the adidas Perfekt, Rudolph looked to "one up" his brother with the introduction of what would eventually become PUMA's most iconic trainer of all time. At the height of the Civil Rights movement in the USA, two American African athletes Tommie Smith & John Carlos raised their fists whilst holding their PUMA trainers on the winners podium. The name Crack had nothing to do with the drugs epidemic that would rage like wild fire through the streets of inner city Los Angeles in the 1980s. It was just something people said at the time to describe something or someone that was the best. Moving into 1972 the Crack then became the Clyde courtesy of the New York Knicks legend, Walt 'Clyde' Frazier.

Alongside the Civil Rights Movement, the basketball & the street connection it was no surprise really that the Suede became the go to trainer of the B-Boys in the 1980s. Inner city New York became the breeding ground of young street savvy kids with colourful graffiti tags, turntables & break dancing crews. Full tracksuits & the PUMA suede trainer became the uniform of the original B-Boy with the Suede getting its own fair share of respect from NYC's very own City Breakers and Rocksteady Crew. Now officially known as the Suede, the trainers' street connection ramped up even more after featuring in Stan Lathan's Beat Street from 1984, a film which would introduce B-Boy culture and electro sounds to other parts of the world for the very first time. Here in the UK the Suede was even called the 'States' trainer for a short period during the 1980s, giving a nod the Suede's Hip Hop & B-Boy origins across the pond.
