Following its more recent revival back in 2021, the PUMA Palermo OG trainer now returns to its spiritual home with a brand new leather update.
Dubbed by some of the more fashion focused fans as the next adidas Samba, the PUMA Palermo OG trainer has been making a lot of noise in the trainer world since its recent revival. With twenty-somethings opting for gum soled court styles like the Palermo it's refreshing to see a renaissance of all things retro. Capturing the original terrace trends from PUMA and its renowned city series, the Palermo OG is probably just about as good as it gets when it comes to revival releases. A legendary series that also gave us the likes of the Roma & the St. Petersburg, the Palermo looked to the olive trees & sunshine of Sicily for the ultimate in retro kerb appeal. The Palermo OG now lands back at its spiritual home in an updated leather version for 2024.

Just like adidas released a range of Continental inspired trainers with cities and places for their names, so did PUMA. Who did it better is probably a conversation for another day. As the Dassler brothers' bitter rivalry continued well into the 1970s the competitive nature of the two Bavarian born Br'der (brothers) was pretty clear. The one-upmanship continued to cities, islands & so on with the Palermo quickly becoming a go to style for those also looking to one-up each other on the UK's homegrown Casual scene. The Palermo was as rare as they came, it was Continental and captured the whole ethos of Casual court trainers. Worn with jeans, argyle knitwear & Bjorn Borg endorsed sportswear the Palermo captured the hearts of the Casuals with its oversized label, suede panelling & overlays that gave the shoe a unique look when compared to the other gum soled "suede" silhouettes before it. With various releases throughout the 1970s & 1980s the Palermo added another celebrated silhouette to PUMA's City Series.

Now revived from PUMA's Herzogenaurach archives the Palermo returns to its spiritual home in an updated leather version for 2024. Highlights of the release includes leather uppers with a suede formstrip to the sidewalls & suede overlays. The original oversized Palermo branding tab still features to the lateral sides in gold foiling alongside the iconic T-toe detailing to the front. The Palermo is then finished off with a PUMA branded gum sole unit for that all important retro aesthetic. Shop the very latest PUMA trainer releases now at 80s Casual Classics via the links.
