The PUMA GV Special 'Laundry Boys' trainer gives a nod to the Dassler brothers' early business venture in Herzogenaurach of running a laundry service.
This latest release from PUMA takes us back to a Dassler brother era, before the bitterly brotherly feud & before the days the likes of the Gazelle or
the Roma even existed. Growing up the Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach, Adolf (Adi) & Rudolph Dassler have left a lasting legacy on sportswear & footwear innovation. According to Herzogenaurach folklore, the Dassler brothers were in the local laundry business before they both became some of the biggest names in the trainer world. Delivering clean washing around their home town of Herzogenaurach, Garmany, the Dassler brothers humble beginnings in the world of business were a bit different to their global brand takeovers across the world of sports for both adidas & PUMA. The PUMA GV Special 'Laundry Boys' trainer gives a nod to the Dassler brother's early business venture with a 'super fresh' spin on the iconic 80s court shoe as famously worn by the Argentinian tennis legend, Guillermo Villas.

Alongside Ivan Lendl, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, Guillermo Vilas also dominated the courts during the late 70s and early 80s. As tennis athletes themselves became faster and more powerful, they demanded a new breed of shoe that could keep up with the fast pace racket sport. Although relatively simple when compared to modern day trainer technology, the court silhouettes of the era really pushed the boundaries of what was physically possible for a performance shoe at the time. Whether it was perforations to the toe box, speed lacing systems or NASA designed sole technology, the 1980s was where the magic really started to happen for tennis trainers. Following in the footsteps of the PUMA California trainer from 1982, the PUMA GV Special trainer launched in 1983 & marked the next generation of PUMA court shoes. It also looked completely unique when with its chunky PU sole unit and perforated toe box.
