After a recent revival from the archives the PUMA Arizona trainer now returns with a nylon update for 2024 in some classic 80s inspired colourways.
Re-worked classics is kind of our thing here at 80s Casual Classics so when a classic PUMA silhouette from the archive gets a bit of an update obviously we're going to shout about it. If you know your
Super Team from your Suede then you will know that PUMA have been absolutely smashing it recently. Connecting with a new generation of suede silhouette fans as well as re-kindling their connection with their original "casual" wearers, PUMA has definitely been on top of their game in recent years thanks to archive re-releases and re-worked classics. This time around its the turn of the Arizona, an OG runner from the late 1970s which was born into the Dassler brothers' bitter brotherly feud. Just like adidas had named trainers after places, towns & even islands, so did PUMA. The one-up nature of the German sportswear brands saw PUMA give us the likes of the Oslo City, the Palermo, the Mallorca, the Dallas, the California, the Panama, the Malibu & the Arizona, referencing everywhere from Scandinavia to Southwestern US states. Revived from the German sportswear brand's Herzogenaurach archives a few years back, the PUMA Arizona is now treated to a nylon update for 2024.

It was the 1970s where PUMA really started to stamp their authority on the changing trainer world. Switching manufacturing to Yugoslavia (some PUMA collectors claim this to be golden era of releases) the 1970s saw the original release of the Clyde with New York Knicks legend Walt Frazier Clyde in 1974 as well football endorsement deals with the likes of Pele & G'nter Netzer. In 1974 Rudolph Dassler also sadly passed away with his sons taking the reins of the Bavarian born sportswear brand & Slazenger taking over UK distribution. 1976 saw PUMA also start to manufacture their shoes in Taiwan which is where the likes of the PUMA Arizona trainer were originally born. Given a nod to the southwestern U.S. state, the Arizona trainer is an OG running shoe which featured suede uppers & a more streamlined silhouette for speed. The extra grippy rubber outsole was also super versatile for different types of running whether it was on the track or on the road.

Now revived from PUMA's Herzogenaurach archives for 2024, the PUMA Arizona trainer gets the updated nylon treatment. Switching the traditional suede uppers for nylon, the archive silhouette features suede overlays with the famous T-toe design to the front of the shoe & formstrip branding to the sidewalls. Other highlights include a super grippy rubber outsole giving a nod to the Arizona's running heritage with PUMA cat branding to the tongue & 'Arizona' branding in silver foiling to the lateral sides.
