If you're bang into your Lacoste (just like us) you'll probably appreciate that the classic crocodile is much more than a one trick pony polo shirt brand. Don't get me wrong we love a bit of the classic polo here at 80s Casual Classics but when it comes to Lacoste there's so much more to the French sportswear label. As much as the apparel side of things always seem to dominate, their footwear offerings are just as good. As much as the Casuals loved a bit of the embroidered crocodile on their clobber it was mainly knitwear & polo shirts, footwear for the original Casuals was a pair of Trim Trabs or Borg Elites. For Lacoste footwear didn't come till a bit later in the 90s & the noughties. All that has changed in more recent years with the introduction of tennis inspired court shoes, runners & archive silhouettes from the 90s like the Lacoste Baseshot trainer which draws inspiration from the Portofino silhouette from 1996.

1996 had a lot going on as far as music, sport & subculture was concerned. We had the 90s sportswear resurgence courtesy of the Spice Girls which bridged the gap between girl power and adidas tracksuits. The summer saw England nearly go all the way in Euro 96' with the legendary Britpop summer anthem from Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds. It was also around the same time Lacoste started to introduce their own footwear ranges. OG styles like the Portofino took the classic court shoe with some added "va va voom". Moving into the early noughties, Lacoste really stamped their crocodile on the UK's homegrown footwear scene courtesy of the "all white" trainer trend alongside classic silhouettes like the Stan Smith & the Reebok Club C. Classic court inspired silhouettes, simple designs & crocodile logos. What more did you really need?
