Originally founded in 1973 by Nathan Swartz, Timberland produced boots for woodworkers that demanded a robust boot that was tough & functional for the forests of New Hampshire. Built for the harshest winters, Timberland's boots quickly gained a loyal following among blue collar workers & those looking for a solid bit of footwear. Moving into the 1980s it was the subculture connection of the brand that gave it a completely unique appeal. Worn by the original Paninaro in Milan with Moncler jackets as they sat on their motorbikes outside McDonalds, the Timberland boot became something like the Paninaro's equivalent of the Dr. Martens boot to the skinheads.
