Our latest collection of Ellesse tennis shorts will take you back to an era of grand slam titles, fashionable tennis gear & flamboyant sportswear with that iconic half tennis ball logo.
As far as colourful sportswear goes there was a lot of it about in the 1980s. As far as colours go it was arguably the Italians that did it the best. However, as much as Fila & Sergio Tachini did an amazing job at what they were doing, there will always be something that little bit different as far as Ellesse is concerned. With its half tennis ball logo which is just about as iconic as its gets when its comes to branding, Ellesse founder Leonardo Servadio really set the bar as far as colourful was concerned. Ellesse was bolder, it was eye popping & it dared to go where other sportswear brands didn't. It just looked really fucking cool! But just like any other flamboyant sportswear brand Ellesse needed a pin up boy to really connect with the players & the playboys. It was the Argentinian tennis legend, Guillermo Vilas who really put Ellesse on the map with his pastel coloured skin tight Ellesse tennis shorts that made his muscular legs look even more muscular. After parting ways with Fila in the late 1970s Vilas signed with Ellesse in 1980. Even though Vilas didn't win any more Grand Slam titles after 1979 it was still a good move for Leonardo Servadio, coming at the pinnacle of tennis fever, the early 80s & the rise of casual sportswear.

Thanks to Vilas, Ellesse really struck a chord with the Casual elite with its colourful tennis apparel. It was all about bold colourways, stripes & the iconic half tennis ball logo which was also just as flamboyant as the clothing. Moving into the mid 80s Ellesse took a chance with a young 17 year old ginger haired German kid. Boris Becker became the youngest tennis player ever to win a major Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 1985. Sporting Ellesse tennis shorts, an Ellesse polo shirt & the iconic Ellesse Wimbledon track top as he lifted one of the worlds most sought after tennis trophies it was arguably one of the biggest & proudest moments for the Italian sportswear brand. There have been hundreds of Ellesse athletes that have sported the iconic half tennis ball logo since the mid 80s, but nothing has come close to Becker in 1985.
