With its half tennis ball logo, Ellesse is just about as iconic as its gets when its comes to classic tennis gear from the 1980s. It was the Ellesse founder Leonardo Servadio that really set the bar as far as colourful tennis apparel was concerned. Ellesse was bolder & dared to go where other sportswear brands didn't. But just like any other flamboyant sportswear brand of the 1970s & 1980s, Ellesse needed a pin up boy to really connect the dots between the players & the playboys. It was the Argentinian tennis legend, Guillermo Vilas who really put Ellesse on the map with his pastel coloured polo shirts & shirts which also struck a chord with the Casual elite of the late 1970s & early 1980s. Adding Boris Becker to their books in the mid 1980s also wasn't a bad move for the Italian sportswear brand. The 17 year old wonderkid became the youngest tennis player ever to win a major Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 1985.
