The Diadora Winner Games trainer is an early 90s tennis shoe straight out of the Italian sportswear brands catalogue from 1991.
If you had just started a trainer company and you called a silhouette the Winner, people would think it was a pretty bold statement. That wasn't the case for Diadora though when they named one of their many iconic tennis trainers of the early 90s. The thing is Diadora could of called their trainers whatever the hell they wanted to as they had already earned their respect on the global tennis scene. This probably had a lot to do with the Borg connection in the early 1980s which put Diadora in a league above with the Borg Elite. In the 1985 Davis Cup tennis finals literally all the players were wearing Diadora tennis trainers. Contracts & sponsorship deals obviously played a big part but the Diadora trainers of the era were literally some of the best court shoes available at the time. Whether it was speedy clay courts of the US Open or the freshly cut summer grass at Wimbledon, Diadora were at the very top of their game on all surfaces.

It was back in the 1970s that really saw the competition to create the best tennis shoe really heat up following on from the success of the Stan Smith from adidas. It was all about performance, comfort, breathability, traction & speed. Diadora went all in with the introduction of the Elite trainer in 1976. The Borg Elite from 1981 marked the next chapter for Diadora with its flamboyant gold branding and the fact it was worn by the 'Ice Man' himself, Bjorn Borg. With a unique carbon injected sole & a self adjusting speed lacing system, the Borg Elite was one of the most expensive trainers available on the market at the time. Moving into the early 1990s Diadora teamed up with the West German tennis champion with the Diadora Boris Becker trainer from 1991.
