As far as classic technical outerwear is concerned there isn't much that comes close to the original Berghaus Mera Peak jacket from 1991.
Steeped in subculture from the muddy rave fields of the early 90s to the bouncy "Scouse-House" nightclubs of the North West in the early noughties, the Berghaus Mera Peak jacket is still considered the godfather of GORE-TEX. With various versions dropping since its origins back in 1991, the Mera Peak has became something like the outerwear symbol of rave culture from the rainy terraces to the highest peaks. Youth culture has played a key role in the Mera Peak's UK nostalgia with an admiration running all the way from Scotland to the southern counties. Favoured for its waterproof function courtesy of GORE-TEX technology and classic colour-blocking design it was strictly vintage if you wanted to get your hands on the legendary outdoors jacket. All that has now changed with this latest revival release of the 2000 model which now lands at 80s Casual Classics.

From the late 80s to the early 90s, Berghaus transitioned from the mountains to the streets. Although Berghaus (mountain house) is a German name, its actual origins started from Dean Street in Newcastle courtesy of Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison in 1970. The early rave connection has seen the brand continue to be a popular outerwear style on the streets as worn previously by the likes of Liam Gallagher & Jay Kay (Jamiroquai). Original colour-blocking outerwear styles like the Mera Peak from the early 90s continue to be some of the most sought after Berghaus styles ever released from the Newcastle born brand.
