The adidas Continental 80 Stripes 'Grid' trainer adds some 80s arcade vibes to the European exclusive from the late 1980s.
Since the adidas Continental was revived from the 3 stripes archives back in 2018 it's fair to say it has become a bit of a mainstay in the trainer world. Classic, clean & super casual, the Continental 80 is just one of them OG 80s silhouettes that looks great with just about anything. Sometimes less is more, and in the case of the Continental its simplistic design & 80s charm are all you really need when it comes to a cool looking pair of trainers. Prior to its new found popularity, the Continental was a relatively unknown 3 stripes style. Coming from the same fitness focused era as the likes of the adidas Powerphase trainer, the Continental also boasts that 'all leather' 80s fitness shoe aesthetic. Originally released in the late 1980s as an exclusive European 'Made in France' release (hence the name), the Continental 80 was all about comfort & performance with its terry towelling to the inner ankle collar, foam cushioning and perforations to the toe vamp for breathability. Bringing together design inspiration from the likes of the Stan Smith & the Powerphase, the Continental merged classic 3 stripes court style with 1980s fitness appeal. Since its original release back in the late 1980s, the Continental had been firmly locked away in the Herzogenaurach archives. Since its revival from the adidas archives the adidas Continental 80 has become one of the most popular trainer styles of modern times.

Highlights include tumbled leather uppers for a classic retro 80s vibe with added perforations to the sides and toe vamp for breathability. A luxury touch is added to the collar with French terry cotton and an EVA insert is added to the midsole for superior cushioning and all day comfort. The classic 80s silhouette is also updated for 2021 with reflective white & sliver 3 stripes to the sidewalls for added visibility in the darker hours. There's also the addition of a grid pattern to the tongue tab & heel for some 80s arcade vibes inspired by classic games like Tron.
