If you were knocking about in the early 90s you will probably already be aware that "no fuss" running trainers like the New Balance 530 were definitely not worn with jeans down the local boozer on a Saturday afternoon. The thing is though times change, new trends come and go and silhouettes that were once worn by elite marathon runners are now worn by footwear aficionado's who know their Hexalite from their ENCAP. The New Balance 530 is most certainly one of them trainers. A classic runner from the early 90s that has come back in a big way over the last few years thanks to collaborations with Salehe Bembury and a new found love for all things retro & running. It was the 1980s fitness boom that saw a new demand like never before for running trainers with a seismic shift in running shoe technology. It was all about the sole technology with New Balance at the very forefront of the 80s trainer evolution. The decade saw some of the most iconic NB silhouettes of all time. In 1980 NB introduced the 620, closely followed by the 420 in 1982, the 670 in 1984, the 1300 in 1985 and then the New Balance 574 trainer in 1988. American marathon runner and New Balance athlete, Dick Beardsley, famously wore a pair of New Balance running trainers as he crossed the line for the Boston Marathon in 1982. The decade also saw the launch of the celebrated 99x series with the 990 in 1982. The sole technology & design innovation of the 1980s would also lead to the creation of state of the art running silhouettes in the early 1990s like the New Balance 530 trainer. Originally designed as a performance running trainer the 530 was re-released from the New Balance archives last year. The iconic early 90s silhouette features mesh uppers with synthetic overlays for that classic retro runner aesthetic. Other highlights include 'N' branding to the sidewalls with ABZORB sole cushioning underfoot which absorbs impact through a combination of cushioning & compression resistance.
