It was the 1970s that saw a massive shift in traditional trainer designs. The running trend of the late 1970s saw the big sportswear brands battle it out for the centre folds of the worlds most respected running magazines with the start of the –sneaker race” that would continue well into the 1990s. The late 70s alone saw OG runners like the Nike Waffle, the PUMA Easy Rider, the adidas TRX, the adidas SL72, the Brooks Vantage, the New Balance 320 & the New Balance Supercomp to name a few make their way onto the shelves of the sportswear stores across the globe. When all said and done who doesn't love a classic 70s runner with their unique aesthetic of extra grippy soles, suede overlays and that signature 70s runner style. If classic 70s runner style is your thing then you'll love this latest New Balance 327 trainer which now lands in an updated chrome blue/dark olive colourway.

The New Balance 327 trainer was the brain child of the Manchester based creative & designer, Charlotte Lee. Drawing inspiration from the New Balance 320 & the Super Comp, two original running styles that were released back in the 1970s. The 320 first came on the scene back in 1976 and was the very first model that not only used numbers for the name but also the iconic N logo. The 320 was an instant hit and was also voted the number one running shoe by Runner's World Magazine. The fact that Tom Fleming wore a pair of 320's when he won the New York Marathon in 1975 might have helped out a bit as well. The New Balance Super Comp from 1978 was geared up more for synthetic track and road use with its air sprung sole unit. The 327 clearly takes it sole design from the grippy rubber studded outsole of the Super Comp.
