Fila Settanta Mk1: The Original 80s Casual Classic
The Fila Settanta Mk1 track top came from a pinnacle era of casual fashion as worn by the legendary Björn Borg himself.
Sportswear endorsement has been huge over the last 50 years. For example; Franz Beckenbauer for adidas with the Beckenbauer, Walt Frazier for Puma with the Clyde, John McEnroe for Sergio Tacchini with the Ghibli, Boris Becker for Ellesse with the Wimbledon and of course Björn Borg for Fila with the Settanta Mk1. Although Borg was seen wearing several different Fila styles throughout his sponsorship period which started back in 1975, it was really the Settanta Mk1 he was most remembered for. A track top worn by winners, Borg was famously seen lifting the Wimbledon trophy wearing the famous varsity inspired silhouette throughout his 5 consecutive titles. The Settanta Mk1, the BJ or even the Matchday as it also sometimes referred to was first released in 1976, with the Swedish playboy putting the Settanta on the map to a global audience of tennis enthusiasts. As tennis fever hit an all time high in the late 70s and early 80s so did casual fashion, with Italian sportswear brands like Fila becoming the most in demand brands for young casuals across the UK. Borg’s casual tennis style dominated the courts and every young casual at the time wanted a piece of it.

After Fila‘s revival in the mid noughties thanks to Nick Love’s The Business in 2005 starring Danny Dyer & Tamer Hassan, a part which we played an integral role in, the Settanta Mk 1 was brought back to a new generation of casual collectors. The Settanta revived the original casual sportswear look for some who had lived the era and also educated a new generation about classic Italian sportswear from the 80s. Since then the Fila Settanta Mk1 has played a key part of our business here at 80s Casual Classics which continues to this day. Still arguably one of our best selling styles of all time, with numerous re-releases and exclusives under our belt, the Fila Settanta Mk1 is just simply an all time casual classic and one of our personal favourites.

The all time casual favourite is now re-introduced to its spiritual home in its original navy colourway as worn by the tennis legend himself back in the late 70s and early 80s. We’ve also introduced the legendary BJ track top in some fresh new colourways including the likes of royal blue and soft sky. Featuring the iconic pinstripes to the sides and contrasting stripes to the collar and the sleeves, the Settanta still remains the king of sportswear for the casual elite. A great addition to any casual collectors wardrobe and the perfect opportunity to grab your own piece of casual sportswear from where it all started. Each style is finished off with the iconic F branding to the left chest, a symbol of the casual elite and 80s tennis nostalgia.
