The Sole of a Winner: The Diadora Titan 'Seb Coe' Trainer Returns
Share
The Diadora Titan trainer is an original silhouette from 1984 which gives a nod to the original Seb Coe trainer and the legendary London born middle distance runner.
When it comes to classic running trainers it's usually the 1980s that we always seem to revert back to. Running was big business and so was creating the best running shoe. All the big sportswear brands jumped all over the running trend and went all in with state of the art trainer technology and designs you probably didn't think were physically possible. Nike gave us Air Max, ASISC gave us GEL, adidas gave us Torsion & New Balance gave us ENCAP all literally within the same decade. It was something like the equivalent of the space race only for sneakers. It wasn't just about the technology though, it was also about the style of the speedy silhouettes. Going back to the 1960s & 1970s no-one would of dreamed of wearing a pair of running shoes with a pair of jeans. All that changed in the 1980s thanks to legendary running styles like the Diadora Titan 'Seb Coe' trainer which now arrives back at its spiritual home in an updated dark denim/blue shadow colourway. It was the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984 that really put the London born middle distance runner Seb Coe on the global running stage as he took gold in the 1500m final. At the height of sportswear endorsements and running trainer tech of the 1980s, the partnership with Diadora sparked the next generation of running silhouettes from the Italian sportswear brand. First arriving on the scene back in 1984, the endorsement was a match made in heaven. Every sportswear brand wanted Seb Coe wearing their trainers and just like Bjorn Borg had served up Diadora to the very top of the court trainer style, so did the partnership with Seb Coe for their running department. First introduced in 1984, the Diadora Seb Coe trainer was famously endorsed by the middle distance runner. Coe boasted numerous records on the track as well as gold medals in the 1500m in both the 1980 & 1984 Olympics. Coe would later go into politics leaving a lasting legacy on the running trainer world. With the rise of the running trainer trend of the 1980s many Casuals had already made the switch from the traditional gum soled court shoes. Following on from the elitist appeal of the Borg Elite trainer when the Seb Coe came on the scene it was an instant hit on and off the tracks.
