The Most Casual of Checks: Aquascutum Club Check Caps & Bucket Hats
Share
The Aquascutum Club Check Cap has remained a matchday mainstay since the early noughties and now arrives at 80s Casual Classics in an updated Hydro fabric.
Following on from Aquascutum's most recent'revival of its celebrated Club Check'(yes there is a God!), the most 'casual' of checks now arrives in arguably its greatest form. If you were knocking about in the early to mid noughties you will remember the matchday pubs clad with check caps from British heritage brands like Aquascutum with its Club Check becoming the uniform of dressers & die hard Casuals. Gaining popularity on the back of Nick Love's The Football Factory and a revival of designer clothes, the Club Check cap also made its mark on the UK's homegrown urban scene courtesy of Mike Skinner from The Streets who championed the whole early to mid noughties 'designer casual' look. The tribal check of the London born label is an all time fan favourite. The good news is the Club Check is now officially back with the latest release of the highly celebrated Aquascutum Club Check cap & a selection of Club Check bucket hats.

Founded back in 1851 by John Emary on London's prestigious Regent Street, it was Aquascutum that introduced the first waterproof wool fabric for outerwear. Aquascutum might sound like some sort of fancy Victorian name but it's actually the Latin for 'watershield'. Long before the days of GORE-TEX & garment technology from the 1980s from the likes of Massimo Osti, Aquascutum were already setting the bar for fabric innovation 130 years earlier. There's probably only really a handful of brands that can claim the same cult status as Aquascutum and just like the fellow British brand Burberry had their iconic 'Nova' check, for Aquascutum it was all about the Club check.

After a brief hiatus on what we thought was the end of the highly celebrated heritage brand the classic Club Check from Aquascutum now returns to its spiritual home with a collection of matchday ready headwear. Highlights include the Club Check Cap in classic baseball cap form which features the iconic check print throughout as well as Aquascutum's latest Hydro fabric technology which is water repellent. Hydro creates a watertight seal to the fabric so no water can penetrate the fibres making it the ideal bit of headwear for the stereotypical British weather. We've also got a reversible bucket hat, which features the classic club check to one side and navy to the other. Featuring a flexible brim as well as Hydro fabric technology, both styles will make a great addition to your 'casual' wardrobe.
