Born On The Mountains: Patagonia At 80s Casual Classics
Patagonia is an American clothing brand that has grown into one of the most respected outdoor labels on the planet.
Started in Ventura, California back in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia is a world renowned outdoors brand who are on a mission to save our planet. Starting out as an outdoors brand catering for rock climbers, Patagonia has built its environmentally friendly reputation by donating 1% of all their sales to help environmental causes and the planet. As well as raising awareness of global environmental concerns through their products, Patagonia also donated $10 million from a tax cut to climate change groups in 2018. As the affects of climate change become more evident each year from rain-forest fires to flooding, it’s great to see brands like Patagonia doing their bit. Re-working fabrics out of recycled goods and limiting water use in production, Patagonia really set the bar when it comes to environmentally friendly apparel that also looks the part. More clothing and footwear brands now need to step up and start taking a ‘leaf’ out of Patagonia’s book.

Over the years Patagonia has also diversified away from the mountains into other extreme sports such as surfing whilst still maintaining their outdoors heritage. The brand has become an outdoors favourite successfully crossing over into the lifestyle world of apparel and accessories from the summits to the streets. The famous mountain logo has become a sign of nurturing nature and a cool Californian clothing brand that aren’t afraid to speak up about environmental issues.
