Originally known as a tennis shirt, the French sportswear label were actually the first ever brand to produce the polo shirt. The design concept came from René Lacoste himself in 1926, aimed at been more functional for the game itself with breathable cotton fabrics and a collar that could to turned up to protect your neck from sun rays on center court. Although the original Lacoste tennis shirt was long before Ralph Lauren introduced their own spin on the style in the 1970s, it was the shirts Polo sport connection that allowed ‘polo shirt’ to stick.
