Fila Settanta Pro Badge Navy

The Fila Settanta Pro Badge Track Top Pays Tribute To Borg’s Original BJ Style

The Fila Settanta Pro Badge track top now arrives at 80s Casual Classics for an exclusive & rare re-release of the original tennis style as originally worn by Björn Borg.

Considered by many as the holy grail of casual apparel, the Fila Settanta track top is easily one of the most recognisable styles from the golden era of casual sportswear. An original design from Pier Luigi Rolando’s legendary White Line, the Settanta marked the next generation of tennis apparel from the Italian sportswear brand. It was all about fusing function with performance & style. The days of boring tennis whites were a thing of the past & the Settanta was at the forefront of the new sportswear revolution. First released in 1976, the Fila Settanta Mk1 featured Borg’s initials with its pro badge & really set the bar for casual sportswear. Its bold colourways & elitist appeal were introduced at the pinnacle of casual fashion, with Björn Borg championing the classic court style during his highly profiled and successful tennis career.

In the 1970s & 1980s Sergio Tacchini & Fila went head to head on the tennis courts. It wasn’t just their athletes though that were battling it out for matchday glory, the two Italian sportswear labels also went all out with who could create the most stylish tennis apparel. Style driven sportswear was a relatively new concept and who better to endorse your latest designs than the Swedish tennis legend, Björn Borg. Reaching the height of his career in the late 1970s, it was Borg’s on court success and playboy lifestyle that quickly threw him into the limelight. Boasting the latest White Line designs, Ferraris and luxurious penthouse apartments in Monte Carlo, Borg was the king of cool, which led to his legendary nickname ‘The Ice Man’.

The Borg connection put Rolando’s prestigious White Line in front of a global audience. The Settanta quickly became the “go to” style for young Casuals who had also adopted the new style driven tennis look. The bold colourways, hefty price tag & elitist appeal of the Settanta made it one of the most desirable track tops for the young Casual at the time who was looking to “One up” the other Casual competition. The Settanta also saw a huge revival in the mid noughties after featuring in Nick Love’s The Business from 2005 which really highlighted the playboy appeal of the classic sportswear style in the 1980s. To this day the Settanta Mk1 remains one of our best selling retro styles of all time.
