Get Down On It With The Full Ellesse Rimini Tracksuit
The Ellesse Rimini which famously featured in the opening scene of Nick Love’s The Firm from 2009 now returns in full tracksuit form.
As far as product placement in a film goes, Nick Love’s The Firm from 2009 did a pretty good job of it. How many opening scenes of a film can you recall where you were blown away by the colourful casual style like The Firm did? Sportswear has featured a lot in films set in the 80s era but none of them really captured it like The Firm. The Firm took wardrobe to the next level with a range of archive sportswear styles from the likes of Fila, Ellesse & Sergio Tacchini. For those who didn’t live through the colourful casual era, it was their first insight into the bold Italian sportswear styles of the early 80s. It was also a great opportunity for us to bring back a range of archive styles that featured in the film like the Ellesse Rimini which now arrives in full tracksuit form.

If you had to name one of the most iconic styles from The Firm, the Rimini is definitely up there. It was what every casual collector had been anxiously waiting for and famously featured in the opening scene of the film as we get a first glimpse of Bex’s rather impressive wardrobe. The Ellesse Rimini is then brought back to life as Bex, played by Paul Anderson (Peaky Blinders & Top Boy), swaggers across his manor to Kool & The Gang’s post disco funk track ‘Get Down On It’. The archive Ellesse style owes a lot to that opening scene, because everyone wanted their own piece of the Rimini after watching it.

First released in 1982, the original Ellesse Rimini track top was born in a golden era of casual sportswear. Thanks to sportswear endorsements with tennis legends such as Boris Becker and Guillermo Villas, Ellesse made sportswear cool, fresh and vibrant unlike anything seen before it. The archive style was revived courtesy of 80s Casual Classics in 2010 after we were approached by the Italian sportswear brand to re-introduce a collection of iconic 80s styles. It’s fair to say the Rimini remains a staple style at 80s Casual Classics to this day.
