Before We Was We: Madness by Madness

Before We Was We: Madness by Madness is a 3 part docuseries which chronicles the rise of the one of the biggest and most loved bands in British culture.

Numerous subcultures & music genres became the by-products of Thatcher’s Britain in the late 70s & early 80s. Working class youths with little prospects thanks to a system that had failed them took the musical direction as a way to get their voices heard. Sticking two fingers up at an establishment that simply didn’t care about them, it was North London born bands like Madness that led the Two-Tone & Ska revolution. The music united black and white youths all over the country with fast tempo saxophones, sharp suits & jerky dancing. Coming together through London’s underground graffiti scene of the 1970s, Madness attracted a loyal following at the Dublin Castle in Camden in the late 1970s. The band would become one of the most popular bands of the 1980s with a selection of chart topping hits such as ‘One Step Beyond’, ‘Baggy Trousers’, ‘It Must Be Love’ & ‘Our House’.
