The adidas ZX 500 ‘Black’ trainer reminds us of why we fell in love in with “die marke mit den 3 streifen” from the very beginning.

The highly celebrated ZX series from adidas has seen a massive resurgence in recent years. From OG re-releases of classic late 80s styles like the ZX 8000 in its iconic ‘Aqua’ colourway to collaborations with the Danish toy brand, Lego. There’s just something very special about the ZX line with all its 3 stripes nostalgia & innovative running trainer designs from the golden era of 3 stripes. Following on from the huge success of the adidas Oregon trainer from 1982 which utilised Bill Dellinger’s ground-breaking Dellinger web system, adidas decided to up the anti with the introduction of the ZX line in 1984. One of the very first trainers to roll off the ZX manufacturing line was the ZX 500, which really set the bar as far as running trainer tech was concerned. We’re now treated to introduction of the adidas ZX 500 ‘Black’ trainer which reminds of why we fell in love with “die marke mit den 3 streifen” from the very beginning.

First introduced in 1984, the ZX line utilised ground-breaking sole technology such as Torsion & Soft Cell with each shoe specifically designed for a different running terrain. That was the beauty about the ZX line. One shoe could be for road running, the next one could be slightly tweaked for off road use. As the ZX line grew, so did the technology with little tweaks and adaptations along the way to create some of the greatest running shoes the world has probably ever seen. The adidas ZX 500 trainer was one of the very first ZX line trainers. It featured nylon mesh and suede uppers, ghilly lacing as well as a dual density EVA midsole and heel counter for super stability. Originally designed for long distance running the ZX 500 didn’t just perform, it was also a great looking shoe.
