The adidas Continental 80 Trainer is World Famous For Quality

It’s not really surprising that the adidas Continental trainer originated in the 1980s as an exclusive European release.

European trainer culture & US sneaker culture may have somehow merged closer together in more recent years thanks to social media, trainer raffles & modern day hype culture. However, back in the 1980s the trainer landscape was a lot different to what you see around you today. There has always been a certain European style when it comes to footwear & trainers. Whether that’s a pair of Gazelles on the football terraces across Europe, or a pair of Kickers on the dance floor at the Hacienda in Manchester back in the early 90s. The European trainer style is, and still is, a thing when it comes to trainer culture. Take the adidas Continental trainer for example which couldn’t really sound more European unless it was called the adidas Europe trainer. A classic example of an OG European sports silhouette from adidas that was revived from the 3 stripes archives in 2018. The latest adidas Continental 80 World Famous For Quality trainer adds an authoritative stamp of international calibre to the original European model.

This time around however it’s not just the European connection for the Continental 80 trainer. The OG trainer has seen a massive global resurgence and appreciation after its re-release in 2018 and is now arguably up there as one of the most popular adi styles in recent years. Originally released in the 1980s, the Continental drew inspiration from other classic 80s fitness styles like the Workout from Reebok. The OG tennis trainer was all about comfort, packing extra foam cushioning and French terry cotton towelling to the ankle support. After an exclusive ‘Made in France’ European release back in the 1980s, the Continental has been firmly locked away in the adidas archives up until recently.

For the latest season, the Continental 80 is introduced in an updated ‘World Famous For Quality’ iteration. The contemporary white/bluebird colourway gives a nod to the signature hues of the German sportswear brand with a minimal take on the classic 80s trainer style. Highlights include smooth leather uppers in white with added perforations to the toe vamp and sidewalls for extra breathability. The all day casual trainer features leather overlays for added support with an all white stripe to the sides as oppose to the signature red and navy two tone stripe usually associated with the European style. adidas Originals branding features to the tongue, heel tab, sides, midsole & insole. This special 3 stripes release also features the ‘World Famous For Quality’ stamp to the rear lateral side in bluebird blue. The adidas Continental trainer is a must have trainer for all fans of classic 3 stripes from the 1980s and a great versatile trainer to add to your collection.
